| Gavin had been keeping an eye on this mystery
vehicle until he finally identified it via a link to our website and
has now purchased it, as (in his words) it is clearly not just another
mini kit but something rather special.
Gavin tells the story so far...Its history is that it was a marshals
car at Knockhill racing circuit in Scotland and as far as I am aware
has never been registered. Certainly it has never had seat belts
fitted. It is getting delivered tomorrow (May 14th '06) and in coming
weeks I will find out what else needs to be done engine wise- the
chassis looks intact and the body is sound.
It has a grp hard top fitted- looks like a factory option and looks
original (Wayne has heard rumours of a hard
top in development but is unsure if any made it to the public -
could this be the developmental one? Given to Knockhill for testing
as it would not go near the road.). And fabric sides- again
look original. I haven’t checked the engine no , size or age
as yet but do have an old Min manual which may be some help in this.
The chassis definitely matches the Cub specs on the manual as do
the wheels, roll bar and bonnet.
Interior is basically dry although it has been left outside for
at least 2 years.
Current plan involves, replace floor panel (soft) make engine work
and get SVA then dactari decals.
13yr old son looking forward to driving lessons (after mechanic
training- alas it has a modern oil filter as the old sort are a
prerequisite of trainee mechanics experience in my book!!! ;-)
I for one look forward to seeing/hearing more about this car. |
