The rear suspension is a clever bit of kit, Mr Andersen must
have realized the rear sub frame is a weak link when it comes to
rust. So he disposed of it!
Standard mini rear arms are mounted direct to the Cub chassis and
use standard shocks, standard dry rubber cones and standard trumpets,
but this is were it starts to get clever. The plate that the cone
mounts against is adjustable by means of loosening the 4 bolts that
hold it to the chassis and adjusting the threaded bar, this means
you get the same effect as fitting hi-lo's - you can adjust the
ride height. You can of course fit hi-los for the look but why not
polish up and lacquer the standard trumpet. Another clever trick
is the extending of the rear arms to accommodate 13" wheel
cutting and welding them was not an option (MOT failure) so a 20mm
plate is bolted to the are where the brake back plate bolts then
the back plate is bolted to the plate further along tidy and effective
it also extends the rear track by 40mm no need for spacers. As the
shock mountings are standard any of the aftermarket shocks fit Adrian
recommends Boge uprated ones from Mini Sport. See a Picture of the
rear suspension HERE.
